POWER POP FOR A GOOD CAUSE:

DIY power pop artist David Heselden (mentioned in my “Jangle On!” column in the past) has just released a new disc entitled “Back On Track” to raise funds for the Poole Hospital Charity (FYI: David works at this Hospital in the UK).  While David’s past discs have focused on very jangly covers of Byrds, Beatles and other 60s tunes, “Back On Track” focuses more on original songs and several notable covers of “Every Night” (Paul McCartney), “I’d Have You Anytime” (George Harrison and Bob Dylan), two versions of “Triad” (David Crosby), “Chestnut Mare” (Roger McGuinn), “Blackbird” and “I’m Only Sleeping”  (Lennon and McCartney) and “By The Time I Get to Phoenix” (Jimmy Webb).  For Byrds fans, you may hear some similarity between the title track and “Love That Never Dies” (featured on the Byrds 1990 box set).  The Rickenbacker 12-string is mostly muted, and there are some orchestral flourishes not present on David’s earlier works … but this is a terrific power pop disc from one of indie pop’s best DIY artists.  And it’s all for a good cause!  The price in the UK is 7.50 Pounds; anywhere else in the world is 8.98 Pounds (includes postage and handling).

To order this disc, contact David directly at djheselden@sky.com.  — Eric Sorensen
