Yeah, The Tories “Wonderful Life”…I agree entirely with your statement about them being one of the more impressive Power Pop bands of the late ’90s. Practically everyone I played this for really liked it and I think this band filled the Jellyfish gap when Sturmer and Manning decided to part company. I was fondest of the tunes “Happy” and like you, “Gladys Kravitz”.

Don’t forget, their second release “The Upside of Down”, featured “Time For You”, which was the theme song of the Christina Applegate series “Jesse”, which ran for two seasons on NBC (1998 – 2000). In a way, this was a level of success that most Power Pop bands haven’t gotten close to. Listening to “Upside…” again recently, there are some very strong songs, but to my ears, it’s geared more toward an adult-album alternative radio format than the gloves-off Power Pop sound found on their debut.
