The Power Prime Podcast Series

You know, I’ve been told by many of Pop Pioneers here at PGH that I keep way, way too low of a profile with letting you all know about the pretty darn amazing “POWER POP PRIME” series on this site.

Honestly, that is true.  I’m not sure why or what  personal, insecure defect I have but, beyond the basic message with letting you know about when a new book is coming out, I have to do a better job with that.

So that will change in 2013.  Dramatically.

After all, we’re talking about a 3,000 page history of the indie power pop from 1995-2010 and that’s a freakin’ cool bit of important work and fellow pop geeks really should be aware about.

THE SHORT STORY BEHIND “POWER POP PRIME”:  the “Prime” series is a nine volume book series that spans the years 1995-2010(each book comes with a CD).  The first 300-page book was published in July, 2011.  “Volume 7 – 2007-2008” was the unusual starting point for the series, followed by “Volume 9 – 2010“(January, 2012). “Volume 1 – 1995-1997” arrived in August, 2012 and “Volume 2 – 1998-1999″ in December, 2012.  Each book contains reviews of the best indie power pop from the years that its respective book covers, along with articles and interviews with important power pop artists.  The early volumes in the series contain high-resulution scans of the printed mail order catalogs that my old company Not Lame Recordings sent out to many thousands of power pop geeks throughout the world and are  fascinating historical documents of the activity of the times they represented.   “Volume 3 – 2000-2001” is due to be published in March, 2013. In other words, SOON!

You can get details on the books by going to THIS LINK at the PGH Store.

The Power Prime Podcast Series – Let’s Begin!

Which brings me to announce a VERY special experience for the almost 3,000 Pop Pioneers on the POP GEEK HEAVEN web site.  Fellow Pop Pioneer and good friend of Not Lame Recordings, BRUCE BROWN is going to be helping out with a lot of cool things at this site.

Bruce(Brown) has been running one my favorite music blogs for a few years with FIX IT IN THE MIX, which does music blogging the right way:  few words, lots of music.

On that blog, he’s been posting the most amazing(and, for me, humbling) gathering of hundreds of songs connected to the contents of the “Power Pop Prime” books published so far(as of February, 2013, that is four of the books).

Now, courtesy of Brown so share with fellow pop geeks, we’re making them available inside the PGH community here.  Bruce will be updating many of these podcasts and inserting band, track and album information – so that will be coming but I’m too excited to wait so we’re going to begin sooner, not later.

Cool?

Yes, VERY COOL.  Please post your thoughts, input and note of appreciation below and download the first in a long series of special “POWER POP PRIME” podcasts.

We begin at the strange, unusual beginning of the series – which was not “Volume 1“.  The beginning of “Prime” launched with….”Volume 7“(I’ll explain this in a better forum than this but it was a simple, practical reason…).

DOWNLOAD – “Power Pop Prime Podcast – Show One” – HERE

This show focuses on the letters of A & B of artists/bands that appear or are mentoioned in “Volume 7”.   It is a 87 minute journey into unknown, lost and truly fantastic power pop.  You will discover plenty of amazing, important music that you will not have heard about before.

Once published, the “POWER POP PRIME” books sell for $44.95″ and come with a CD. To celebrate this new podcast series and I have 10 copies of “Volume 7” sitting on my desk that will be on sale for $34.95 until February 15 – or until they are gone before that date.  You can pick it up at THIS LINK.

Very Important Note:  This first volume(“Volume 7”) has a different format with its content than the rest of the books in the series.  This book has a short introduction from and then is a pure compilation of reviews of the best indie power pop from the years 2007-2008. The CD contains 18 songs. The rest of the books in the series balance reviews, interviews, short articles and, in the case of of “Volumes 1-5”, there are scans of the early Not Lame mail order catalogs.

THE FOLLOWING ARE THE SONGS AND ARTISTS THAT APPEAR ON THIS PODCAST.   If you are interested and would like to know more about the artists and releases that appeared in “Volume 7”, you can find out more on Google(of course) or, if you have serious trouble, contact me via email at:  popgeekheaven@gmail.com or post below.

If you decide that you want to hear a full album from an artist appearing here, do the right thing:  if it’s available on the net in a format that you use, purchase it direct from the artist where that option is available.
