THE NOT POP SHOW – Episode Two

Talked about on this show above, the new album FOO FIGHTERS and RORY GALLAGHER.

As mentioned in the show, the box set I mention on the show is not necessarily the best introduction to Rory and the albums that appear on the box are not even in order of release. Nonetheless, for $20, these five albums are a bargain.

The Rory Box can be viewed – HERE

“Photo-Finish”, my favorite Gallagher album – HERE

There’s never really been an outstanding ‘best of’ collection, for my ears, released on Rory Gallagher.  Yet.  The best way to venture in with him is to pick up a few key albums, like “Photo Finish” and then I would add these(disregarding the releases in the box set mentioned above):

“Live In Europe! 1972” – HERE

“Blueprint” – HERE

“Tatoo” – HERE

“Against The Grain” – HERE

Stagestruck(live late 70s) – HERE

If you can find the LP of some early Rory demos from 1966 on an LP from Springboard Records called, “In The Beginning”, it’s surprisingly one of my favorites.  This would shock many fans of Rory as he’s just doing a bunch of blues standards as working demos – he’s young, raw and hungry and it’s captured on tape.  Never on CD but you can find it out on there on net on blogs fairly easily.

‘Photo-Finish’ was my first exposure to Rory. Nice stuff, but I never followed through with his other work with the exception of the first Taste album. Thanks for the tips!

Wow Bruce! Really?!? You don’t like “Wasting Light”? I’m shocked!

I also own all of the Foo Fighters albums and this one is as good if not better than any of the rest.

I’ve always loved the first three CDs but their more recent stuff seemed too by-the-numbers and I had faded away from them, even though I kept wishfully buying their music.

I’ll tell you this, it is great to see a Rock record that has stayed on the Top 40 charts for a loooooong time amidst all of the hip-hop and kiddie pop.

Something cool that might change your mind about “Wasting Light” not being an energetic or inspired record…if you’ve got time, go to http://foofighters.tv and click on “Live from 606”. A video will play that shows the Foos playing the entire “Wasting Light” album live from start to finish without interruption.

    Whit

I can’t believe you do not like Wasting Light. This is the best Foo Fighters ever

Saw Rory Gallagher live at the Victory Burlesque. An old burlesque house. He was great and did the great Bullfrog Blues as an encore
